The President of Ukraine Viktor Ushenko opened the session. He called for Baltic, Black Sea and Caspian Sea states to work together to improve the "reliability and transparency" of European energy supplies. The issues about creating a new culture of transit of energy supplies from East to West were discussed during the summit, as well as the policy of EU on energy security issues.

The President of Georgia Mikheil Saakashvili raised an initiative of creating Baltic, Caspian and Black Sea union in energy issues. He said that this union will become a serious alternative and the warrant for security and transportation of energy resources.

Mikheil Saakashvili believes that this new initiative is very important not only for the region but for the European states as well.

"We held parliamentary elections in Georgia recently. Probably you all remember NATO Bucharest declaration, which indicated directly that Georgia's and the Ukrain's NATO inspirations are obvious. These elections were very important in respect of granting Georgia MAP and we passed this exam successfully", stated the President of Georgia.
