The President of Georgia visited families of natural disaster victims
The President of Georgia visited several families in Ortachala victimized as a result of a natural disaster several weeks ago, whom the Tbilisi City Hall provided with temporary shelter. Mikheil Saakashvili expressed interest in their conditions and ordered the representatives of Tbilisi Mayor’s office to have them under consistent care. The Head of State focused attention on the initiative according to which Tbilisi is going to be freed from barrack type housing. The President stated that a relevant program has to be formed in order to implement this initiative.
“These families should not be living far away from school. The most important thing we should do is eliminating barracks in Tbilisi. For this we need A similar program to what we did in Batumi and we are still implementing there. I was astonished when I saw your home. It is impossible to live there. A huge tragedy happened and we must take care of you now. We must help these people so that those who are unemployed find jobs. We should also assist them in finding permanent shelter. The place where they lived does not correspond with the 21st century. This is why we should create a program of eliminating barracks and take care of these people” – noted Mikheil Saakashvili.
The President of Georgia congratulated them on Independence Day, promised them help and expressed hope that next year they will be in better conditions in personal homes.
In their turn the representatives of the Adeishvili, Chikovani, and Kavteladze families thanked the President for his support. “If not the efforts of the representatives of government and rescuers the tragedy would have been on a lot larger scale” – they noted.
