Two candidates for chair of Central Electoral Commission nominated
Mikheil Ninua, assistant to the president's chief of staff, has held a briefing at the State Chancellery to announce the results of an open competition for the post of chair of the Central Electoral Commission and for one other spot on the commission. He said that the commission charged with holding the competition, whose composition was announced by the president on 7 September, held a meeting on 1 October at which commission members nominated two candidates, Levan Tarkhnishvili and Giorgi Gvajaia, for the post of CEC chair and three candidates, Davit Zaaliashvili, Davit Kirtadze and Paata Manjgaladze, for the open spot on the commission.
Ninua said that Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili had seven days to present one candidate for the post of CEC chair and two candidates for the other spot on the commission.
The competition commission was comprised of representatives of the president's administration and non-governmental organizations. Nine applications were submitted for the spot on the CEC and three for CEC chair.
