The President of Georgia addressed the population of Rustavi

I cannot disregard saying that I arrived to you on very good road and illuminated streets.

When we talk about Rustavi, some usually say: this government has created a virtual reality, everything is happening on a TV screens and nothing changes in real life.

I remember well the Rustavi of 8 years – where we were then, and where we are, my friends, today.

I would only like to remind you that then, the population would receive water once in four days.

Today, besides that one district, where there still is a four hour schedule, all of you, basically, receive water 24 hours a day.

Is this virtual reality? Certainly it is not – it is the reality of Rustavi.

They say that this government does everything for PR and everything is false.

Everywhere in Rustavi there were awful roads, and I remember very well how long it took me to get here.

Today, all the major highways of Rustavi are the best, and we will get to every yard, every block with a road like those in Europe.

Is this a reality, or not? Or we have invented this lie?

You do remember that Rustavi was a dying city. There is a special industry here, special people, outstanding engineers, and an outstanding social background.

We have created several huge logistical automobile and trade centers, the auto track, and several large new and old factories during the recent months.

Everything has become operational and it is only a beginning.

Is this a virtual reality which I have invented, or is this the reality of your daily life?

There are exceptional youth in Rustavi. Every school here will be the best, meeting modern standards and equipped with the latest technology, with high-paid and qualified pedagogues.

We are now building the best training center in Rustavi, so that we raise new specialist and train the old ones. I truly do not believe that the 55 or 57 year old person is not to be valued and not to be engaged in the building of new Georgia.

Look at the kind of squares we have furnished; the sport’s complex we have built…

We have opened a swimming pool here not long ago, of which we do not have a comparable one even in the center of Tbilisi. There should be one like this in the center of Tbilisi as well, and the capital has never been built the way that it is being built today.

We have begun a historic thing today – the construction of Tbilisi-Rustavi Autobahn, after the completion of which it will take us 7 minutes to get to the center of Tbilisi from the exit in Rustavi.

It does not take longer to get to the Tbilisi center from any of its suburb, but Rustavi is not a suburb of Tbilisi, rather it is a city of its own. It is a separate, a full-fledged city of great traditions, a young, but still a very important Georgian city.

It is the main industrial center of great economic importance, the center of the Georgian engineering school.

Of course, our government remembers it very well, and because of that we have huge plans here.

In terms of conditions and infrastructure, living here should be very comfortable, with sports and recreational places.

There will be one of the best parks across Georgia in Rustavi, which is being built by Spanish architects. The construction of this park is to be finished in the upcoming months.

Look at the squares that have been created. We will soon finish the construction of Sports’ Palace too, and open it with a huge celebration.

There will the best theaters here, the best cinemas, the best infrastructure, so that after work people are able to fully rest as well.

I am well aware of the problems of the youth too – there is a lack of entertainment here, and they need to go Tbilisi for that. Soon, all of us, residents of Tbilisi, as well as of other cities, will be coming to Rustavi as it will be the best city in this regard too.

I know what type of people live here, and what traditions they have – once, the best part of the population of Georgia from Kakheti, Kartli, Imereti, Samegrelo, Abkhazia, Ajara have all come to this city…It was exactly them who created this unity, which is absolutely unique not only across Georgia, but the whole region.

What is important is that we have preserved this unity and have not dispersed in the most difficult period, in the 90s, when everything was collapsing.

And in the end, I have the privilege to present the Majoritarian Deputy of your constituency, Mr. Mamuka Chikovani. He is from Rustavi, his parents and his wife are from Rustavi as well, and he is the biggest patriot of this city. I wish him success!

Thank you.
