Mikheil Saakashvili inspected the rehabilitation works at the Bagrati Church
The President of Georgia toured the Bagrati Church reconstruction works in Kutaisi today, and expressed interest in the ongoing process. According to him, this process should be completed to the very end in compliance with all standards because restoration of the Bagrati Church is the people’s demand. As he noted, the Bagrati Church will become one of the best cultural samples, as a result of the work of Georgian and Italian professionals, and it will find its place in world catalogues.
“It is important that this church should be functional. The Bagrati Church is a very important part of our history as it is the symbol of a unified Georgia. It has a magnificent view as well – you can see the renovated theater of Kutaisi, new and restored buildings which will make Kutaisi look more attractive. The restored Bagrati Church will be placed as a crown on the rehabilitated city.” – noted Mikheil Saakashvili and added that he took an oath exactly at the Bagrati Church at a time when it was collapsing from age. However, according to him, as a result of the work of Georgian and foreign experts the church will regain its glory.
