Upcoming presidential election was the subject of conversation during the meeting of Georgia's acting president Nino Burjanadze and European Union's Special Representative for the South Caucasus Peter Semneby. The parties discussed the lead-up to the presidential elections. Nino Burjanadze informed Mr. Semneby of the activities the government was implementing throughout Georgia to ensure a stable lead-up to the elections. According to Burjanadze, a hot line was set up in Georgia's Central Election Committee and in the Ministry of Interior in order to respond to every fact of violation. The acting president also told Mr. Semneby about her initiative concerning the holding of telephone conversations.

"I had telephone conversations with the parliament speakers of Europe and other countries. I called on over 20 countries' parliament speakers to send as many observers to monitor the January 5 elections as possible, since many election observers will be one of the determinants for the democratic elections," said Burjanadze.

At the meeting free and objective media had been also named as another determinant for democracy.

Peter Semneby positively reflected upon the resumption of TV and Radio Imedi's broadcasting and talked about Nino Burjanadze's contribution to this effort.
