Nino Burjanadze meets Ilia Chavchavadze State University students
"I'm happy to see mo many motivated students, a youth that, with their knowledge had successfully passed entrance exams," stated Nino Burjanadze while meeting Ilia Chavchavadze State Univeristy students. "Our generation will make every effort to secure all conditions to enable you use the knowledge, acquired in this university effectively, realize yourself and contribute actively to the democratic development of our state,"
Student loans, student employment and scholarship issues were discussed at the meeting. The effectiveness of the education reform and its outcomes had also been discussed.
Nino Burjanadze talked to the students about the existing situation in the country and ongoing political processes. She particularly emphasized the importance of the presidential elections and stressed that she would make every effort to ensure democracy and transparency of elections.
The students enquired about Georgia's state structure and the model of governance and shared with the acting president their views on these issues. "I deem the presidential model to be the most suitable for Georgia today. Of course, we have to do a lot to strengthen state institutions, although it is not possible to achieve it in two or three years. We are going to this direction and I'm confident that correct steps will be made in the future," said Nino Burjanadze.
Issues related to the conflicts on the Georgian territory were also discussed at the meeting. "I'm confident that you will have to say that you are IDPs from Abkhazia for a short period, and I believe that you and your generation will manage to bridge the gap," said Nino Burjanadze while addressing IDPs from Abkhazia.
Acting president Burjanadze talked with the students about Georgia's foreign priorities, gave an overview of the existing relations between Georgia and international organizations and discussed the importance of cooperation with them.
