Issues related to the January 5 presidential elections had been discussed at the meeting of Georgia's acting president Nino Burjanadze with mass media representatives.

"Key to a transparent and democratic pre-election campaign and the election process will be the objectivity of media reporting," said Nino Burjanadze at the meeting.

Acting president Burjanadze particularly emphasized the important role of mass media, international observers and non-governmental organizations in insuring fair and transparent elections and in the media-coverage effort.

The acting president talked about the mechanisms worked out by the government and measures taken to insure the democracy of elections.

Nino Burjanadze answered the mass media questions and expressed hope that similar meeting will be held in the future.
