The President of Georgia nominated Tengiz Gunava as a candidate for Governor of Samegrelo and Upper Svaneti. Mikheil Saakashvili personally presented the new Governor to the staff of the office of the Governor and City Council during the meeting held in Samegrelo.

During the meeting Mikheil Saakashvili spoke about Tengiz Gunava’s merits and noted that this is a person, who has greatly contributed in terms of fighting crime in Samegrelo. According to the Head of State, Governors of regions are the persons, whose main goal is not to let crime and corruption return like it is happening in conditions of the new Government.

After the end of the meeting, the President toured the territory in Zugdidi, where constructions began before the elections and are now stopped. According to him, the fact that development of Samegrelo has stopped is unfortunate, and he once again noted that he is ready for any kind of cooperation in order for the country to continue development.

“The most important thing now is for the big projects that were going to be implemented in Samegrelo not to stop in any case. Such constructions create at least several thousand jobs for Zugdidians. Last year, even during this time, a lot of tourists visited Anaklia, but it is frozen now because constructions and all the infrastructural projects have stopped. It is important for all of this to continue because construction is followed by investments, new facilities and the creation of jobs” – stated Mikheil Saakashvili.
