The President of Georgia is personally learning about the situation in regions damaged by the disaster
The President of Georgia personally inspected the rehabilitation and cleaning works today. Mikheil Saakashvili visited Liberty Street with the Minister of Defense Dimitri Shashkin. The unit of 100 reserve officers, and the technology and equipment of the Ministry of Defense is mobilized in the disaster area. The President spoke to them personally, and thanked them for their work. Mikheil Saakashvili also arrived in the Shalauri Village, where he met with the local residents. He familiarized people with plans and events that the government is administering around the clock in the disaster regions, villages, and other areas.
“The most important problem is tarpaulin right now. We are using as much as we had. The rest we are bringing from Turkey. We have delivered it to many families, but many more will receive it shortly. This is why I would like to ask our society: God forbid it rains, please help the people whose houses are left roofless. We are loading trucks with tarpaulin, but they cannot make it here today. This is why we must help each other somehow tonight, so that people are not left out in the rain. As of compensation, we will give it to every family. Additionally, we will provide a food package including flour, oil, and sugar and we will control that it will reach every family. I know that a lot of people have lost more than 1500 GEL, but we will at least be able to compensate some of the losses. This is what the state has. We did not expect something like this. In the future we must obligate relevant organizations to invest in credits and insurance for something like this. In any case you know that we are with you. The entire government won’t rest until every roof is fixed, everybody receives compensation, loans are postponed, and food packages arrive in each family. We are distributing the packages in villages right now and we gave out orders to distribute packages in Telavi too. People are traumatized, in shock, and they should have at least the basics at home. The most important thing is to finish business and help each other. You should help the reserve officers – Kakhetians must back each other” – stated the President of Georgia.
The Head of State also visited several villages of the Lagodekhi and arrived in the village of Velistsikhe in the Gurjaani Region and met with local residents. Mikheil Saakashvili spoke to them about ways of dealing with the problem. It is also known that very soon the construction of a road connecting Velistsikhe to the central highway will begin by the order of the President.
