Mikheil Saakashvili responds to the Opposition’s Protests regarding the System of Majoritarian law

The President of Georgia Mikheil Saakashvili made a comment on the opposition's protest rallies today during his visit in Kakheti region and stated, that every region should have its own representative in the Parliament. The President of Georgia blamed the opposition for irresponsible and unserious attitude and called on the opposition to resume the dialogue.

"Two years ago, when the new system was adopted, according to which the status of regional parliamentarians was revoked, people criticized us. We were told that we left our regions without their representatives in the Parliament. During two years the opposition was criticizing us for that legally. What is the reason for this U-turn now? I don't fully understand it. If any political party thinks that system different from this one would put it in a better condition and another system in more unfavorable condition, it is not sufficient reason to call for overthrowing and unrests in the country." - stated the President of Georgia. According to his evaluation, this kind of attitude is irresponsible and unserious. He noted that he is ready to work together with the future majoritarians, to jointly solve specific problems.

Mikheil Saakashvili offers the opposition to sit down to the negotiations table and solve all existing problems together, because this decision doesn't have any alternative.

"I think we all should learn talking not only through loudspeakers but we should simply continue talking with one another and we should all sit at the negotiating table to resolve all the issues based on the interests of our country and our people - noted the President of Georgia - This is the only way and it has no alternative. I think, finally all parties will guess that we should find the common language."
