The Presdient of Georgia Mikheil Saakashvili planted an olive tree in Kakheti region

The President of Georgia Mikheil Saakashvili visited Kakheti region today, where the development of olive culture is being founded. Mikheil Saakashvili planted an olive tree and spoke with entrepreneurs and the village population. As the President noted several olive processing enterprises will be opened during next three years.

"Imagine how hard it is to cultivate strawberries and we are always dependent on nature. I am glad that we are bringing the new culture in. This should create a new segment in the Georgian agriculture. The miracles do not happen, but this is one of the rear cultures in agriculture that will provide permanent income to this region. Olive trees are not that hard to take care of like strawberries or grapes. It is planted on the soil, where nothing else can grow and has a stable price on the world market. What's most important as soon as we have the first harvest the number of jobs will increase. Finally about 300-400 people will have jobs", the President of Georgia stated.

Olive trees will be planted on about 100 hectares, in about three years first Georgian product will be released. About 70 people are already employed in this sector.
