The President of Georgia opened the Kutaisi State Historical Museum

The President of Georgia opened the Kutaisi State Historical Museum today, which is located in the renovated former building of the National Bank. The President of Georgia talked about the development plan of Western Georgia and the projects that are planned in Kutaisi. He stated that this is a city of rich traditions and culture, which should regain its historic significance and become the second capital of Georgia. During his speech, the President also noted that Kutaisi is an “Outdoor Museum,” because such historic monuments as Motsameta, Bagrat and Gelati are located in this city.

“The new history of Georgia begins in the 21st century. By restoring the function it had three decades ago, Kutaisi is becoming the political and administrative center as well as the second capital of Georgia…historic significance is coming back to the city, which for every Georgian is a symbol of a unified and strong Georgia of David the Builder.” – stated Mikheil Saakashvili.

There are more than 200 thousand pieces exhibited in the multi-century tradition state museum of Kutaisi. There are samples of archaeological, numismatic, gold art and Georgian scriptures represented in the museum. Aside from this, unique historical documents are kept there.
