The President of Georgia toured the construction of the Kutaisi movie theater

Mikheil Saakashvili toured the “Sakartvelo” movie theater in Kutaisi today and noted that development of such infrastructure is very important. According to the President, in order for Kutaisi to become the second capital of Georgia it is necessary to develop it in terms of economy, tourism and infrastructure.

“Kutaisi is becoming grandiose again. The “spirit” of this city is known to us only from history textbooks. Its scale and meaning has practically been lost. In the urban sense, Kutaisi no longer had an economic function and the city of such great importance had turned into a village. This was not right. What is happening now is only the beginning. The buildings have been constructed as a result of private investments, but of course the state is controlling all of the projects and offering the investors new projects. We have a plan for developing this city. When we have a lot of such buildings, when we revive our streets, open cafes, stores, and small businesses, when tourists arrive and people will be employed here, the income will rise. This is what gives the city its life; not the administrative buildings or even its history. These buildings only assist in the process of developing this city. You can see that aside from the government house, this beautiful building of the movie theater has been built by private investment. The construction of houses has already begun. For years, even during the times of economic hardship, houses were being built in Tbilisi, but not here. So, what all of this means is returning life to Kutaisi, which will also continue in the future” – noted Mikheil Saakashvili.
