The President of Georgia toured the Akhmeta Medical Center

The President of Georgia visited Akhmeta today and toured the new medical center equipped with ultramodern technologies along with the Minister of Health of Belarus and various specialists. The medical center built by the insurance company “Imedi L” was opened on February 17th and it has already provided ambulatory and stationary care for up to 200 patients. 30 babies have been born at the clinic during this time period. The new hospital is designed for 20 beds and it employs up to 100 qualified specialists. The local citizens can get emergency medical assistance, surgery, stationary, and ambulatory care at the hospital. The insurance company “Imedi L” has invested 3.5 million in the above-mentioned project.

Later today, the President decorated a merited doctor Vakhtang Alkhanishvili with the Presidential Order of Excellence for his personal contribution in the medical sphere, as well as his long and productive work.

“Vakhtang Alkhanishvili has been working in Akhmeta for almost 50 years. There is no higher privilege for a surgeon, who has helped thousands of people, assisted in the betterment of their lives and gave life to many of them, gave happiness and relief to their families and promoted kindness in general. I would like to give the Presidential Order of Excellence to Mr. Vakhtang on behalf of the Georgian state. – stated the President of Georgia.

In his turn, Vakhtang Alkhanishvili thanked the President first of all, for building the hospital and second of all, for valuing his merits. As he noted, the new clinics have all conditions for doctors to be able to use all of their potential and the patients to get the best medical care.

“The older generation of doctors could only dream of working in such conditions. All of this is your merit” – he told Mikheil Saakashvili.

The Head of State also met with the local population and addressed them. During his address, he once again touched on the issues of unilateral abolishment of the visa regime with Russia and the election that was held in Russia yesterday.
