The President of Georgia learned about the construction process of the summer theater in Batumi

The President of Georgia toured the construction site of the summer theater at the Batumi Boulevard. As Mikheil Saakashvili stated, the new theater will be the best place for popularization of the local culture and holding various festivals. In addition to this, the new theater will offer the locals and tourists many pleasant sights.

“The summer theater here was three times smaller. Aslan Abashidze did not like places where people gathered. This is why they burned this theater and demolished the stadium. The new theater will be three times larger than the old one. Years ago, Batumi was a small province town, but now it is becoming a big city. I think that this theater will open in August and it will be designed for 1200 people. This means that we will hold very large festivals here. In mid August a large cultural festival will be held and a lot of foreign performers will arrive here, but we should first of all put the local performers in the spotlight. Last year we opened an Opera theater in Batumi and practically created a new troupe. This troupe will astonish many people this year too. All of this is based on restoring the local traditions. The summer theater is the place to restore these traditions. It will also assist in attracting tourists, who in their turn will spend money and raise the overall income.

The increased income will show on the families of Batumians and Georgians in general.” – stated the President of Georgia.

According to the project, the new theater will be an replica of the old one, but it will be able to host 2000 guests instead of 450. The architectural style will be just like the old one, decorated with wood. The ceiling mosaic will create an imitation of a natural sky. The chairs of the theater are of local production. They were made in Batumi.

The construction has been going on for 3 months already, employing 80 persons. It will end in August and the new theater will host Batumians and tourists beginning at the end of summer.
