The President of Georgia met with certified teachers and excelling students
The President of Georgia met with certified teachers and excelling students at the Teacher’s House today. Mikheil Saakashvili spoke about the reforms and projects in the education sphere. He focused attention on the innovations that are going to be adopted in the near future. Namely, about the new examination system which will be functional next year.
Prospective students will take national exams for the last time this year. Beginning in 2013, they can be admitted to universities through school certificate exams and one additional general abilities exam. According to the President, the 8+1 principle will be fairer, because the prospective students will have a chance to retake the exam several times per year in the case of an unsuccessful attempt. The national examination center will still oversee the school certificate exams.
At the end of the meeting the President awarded the excelling students with laptops, made in Georgia, and the teachers with certificates. The awarding of students has been taking place within the scope of the National Presidential Program “My First Computer” for several years.
