The President of Georgia addressed the conference of representatives of the United National Movement

Mikheil Saakashvili addressed the conference of representatives of the United National Movement at city councils and the Parliament of Georgia today. The President spoke about the necessity for democratic development of the country, European future and North Atlantic integration. He also focused attention on the ongoing political events. As he noted, the main action plan of the United National Movement is based on equality, tolerance, a multi ethnic religiously diverse and open Georgia as well as principles of modernity, transparency, meritocracy, equal opportunities for everyone, public order, security of our children, rule of law and fighting crime.

“We have strong principles related to the independence of our country, its European future, the economy, rights of minorities, the judiciary system, and crime. We must protect these principles with firmness and solidarity. These are the principles which must be converted to the future action plan in the following weeks and months…we are the party of modernization and European renovation of our country. So we must make our ways of making decisions compatible with European principles” – stated the President of Georgia.

The conference was attended by leaders of the United National Movement, representatives of local self governance from the entire country including the Tbilisi City Council and the Parliament of Georgia.

Vitali Klitschko attended the conference as an honorary guest, and focused attention on the relations of Georgia and Ukraine.

“Your country has shown an important example to the world. Georgians have shown that a post Soviet country can overcome corruption and become a modern state.  You have proven that reforms of such a huge scale can be implemented in several years. I always see the proof of this when I visit Tbilisi, Batumi and other cities locally. It is already impossible to take this away from people. I often recall my impressions when I visited this place in the 90s. Today this is completely a different country. This difference is colossal and principal today. The last proof of this was the parliamentary elections during which Georgia showed that it is truly a democratic country, which makes possible for the opposition to come to power through elections” - stated the leader of the “UDAR” Party.

During the conference the United National Movement and UDAR signed an agreement regarding cooperation.
