President Saakashvili attends Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan pipeline opening ceremony

President Mikheil Saakashvili and the Presidents of Turkey, Azerbaijan and Kazakhstan attended an official opening ceremony of Tbilisi-Baku-Ceyhan pipeline at Sangachal terminal today.

President Saakashvili addressed the society there stressing the importance of the pipeline project. He said that the role of the project participant states would significantly increase in the region.

President Saakashvili considers that besides transporting energy resources the pipeline would have other functions and will draw together the project participant states and enhance their relationship.

President Saakashvili also mentioned that the pipeline project is very beneficial and represents the best example of international cooperation. "We are proud to have the mission of a transit country in this project," the President said.

Within the framework of "East-West Corridor" the Presidents of all the four countries signed a political declaration.

The US Energy Secretary, Samuel Bodman attended Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan pipeline presentation.
