The President of Georgia met with populations of several villages in the disaster zone
The President met with populations of several more villages in the disaster zone. Mikheil Saakashvili promised to help and restore houses of the residents of Kurdgelauri, Shalauri, Nasamkharali, and Kisiskhevi. The Head of State listened to the problems of the local residents personally, and noted that the government will not leave anyone in harm’s way and will do its best to eliminate the results of the disaster. One more initiative that Mikheil Saakashvili introduced to the locals is having the students, who are from victimized families, exempt from college tuition for one year.
“This is the first stage. We are going village by village and we will fix every victim’s house with the highest quality. The communications will be completely underground and additionally, we are going to assist you with agriculture. We will show you what real backing means. Yesterday the Parliament altered the budget and everybody will receive compensation for this, the distribution of which will begin after several days. As of tuition, members of the victimized families studying at universities will be exempt from college tuition for one year. We have frozen the loans and we will work so that nobody feels these loans as additional weight on their shoulders next year. We have decided, and this is my personal decision, to make this region exemplary not only in Georgia, but in the entire Caucasus and Europe. The most important thing is to save people from poverty, the rest whether it will be fixing a roof or restoring a house, will be dealt with. We have to take care of every Kakhetian village whether it is hailed on or not, rained on or not. This is how it will be. I sincerely promise you this.” – stated Mikheil Saakashvili.
Mikheil Saakashvili also met the soldiers who have been helping the victimized population since day one. Mikheil Saakashvili thanked them for their hard work and devotion while helping the local population.
“I am very grateful to you guys. You are working hard around the clock and giving people hope. We have never had such a disaster. The most important thing is to keep working and being active” – noted the President while talking to them.
