President Mikheil Saakashvili at the World Leaders Forum on September 14 at Columbia University made an address on the subject, Taking Power Peacefully: Reflections on the Post-Communist Revolutions of 2000-2004.

At the symposium, composed of leading statesman of the countries, President Saakaashvili in his address, examined a variety of issues: the dangers facing nonviolent movements when confronting violent regimes; how the ideas and tactics of nonviolent protest travel from country to country; the challenges of ensuring that democratic revolutions remain democratic; and whether his country's experience provides a new model for large-scale, peaceful protest against dictatorships around the world.
