ELECTIONS TO THE INSTITUTIONS OF LOCAL GOVERNING WILL TAKE PLACE OF THE 5TH OF OCTOBER, 2006
After consultation with the chairman of the parliament of Georgia and taking into consideration the positions of different political organizations, the President of Georgia Michael Saakshvili made a resolution to carry out the elections to the institutions of local governing on the 5th of October, 2006.
It will be the first elections in the history of Georgia, when the population of all regions and cities elects the local government themselves.
The government invites foreign observers in large quantities and calls the population to activity, so that the elections would be maximally transparent and carried out in atmosphere of democracy.
On the 26th of August, 2006, the President of Georgia Michael Saakashvili signed the decree, according to which the elections to the institutions of local governing will take place of the 5th of October, 2006.
