A bilateral meeting was held between Mikheil Saakashvili and Catherine Ashton

The President of Georgia met with the High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy and the Vice President of the European Commission, Catherine Ashton. Issues of international security and Georgia’s contribution in this sense as well as affairs of the EU monitoring mission in Georgia were the main topics of discussion. During the meeting Catherine Ashton focused attention on the necessity of developing the reached progress in terms of negotiations on the Association Agreement and Deep and Comprehensive Free Trade Agreement. She expressed hope that Georgia will continue the process of European integration and this issue will still remain as a priority for the country. By assessment of the Vice President of the European Commission, the parliamentary elections and transfer of power were administered democratically in Georgia. It was also noted during the meeting that the European Union places a special significance on constructive cooperation between the Government and the President. The High Representative of the European Union noted regarding the recent occurrences that it is imperative to protect principles of justice and the rule of law – this is the most important value, which according to her is common for Georgia and the EU.

After the wide format meeting Mikheil Saakashvili and Catherine Ashton met bilaterally.
