Dozens of units of agricultural machinery have left for the regions of Georgia with the initiative of the President today. The new tractors will be distributed to 12 service centers across the country. Beginning tomorrow, any farmer in the country will have an opportunity to use these tractors for their spring agricultural works.

Mikheil Saakashvili made a comment today regarding this issue and noted that the government is keeping their promise to the population and developing agriculture as well as assisting farmers which remains a priority for the government.

After the President inspected the new machinery, including the tractors imported from Belarus, he focused attention on the importance of cooperation with Belarus in terms of agricultural resupplying.

“Our experience of many years has convinced us in the reliability of Belarusian tractors as well as agricultural technology. This technology is created with love of work and a good knowledge base. Our village population knows them well and likes them, we will buy thousands of new units within the next few months” – noted Mikheil Saakashvili. According to him, modernization of this sphere will assist popularization of Georgian production.

The President of Georgia drove one of the tractors that were outbound to the regions of Georgia symbolically.

“People learn to use this technology at technical colleges and then we import it and these machines are supplied to our service centers. This basically creates permanent jobs for the residents of villages. There is so much more land to work on in Georgia that there will always be a demand for tractors specialists and drivers. By the way, we have more jobs for them today then we have people in this profession or even candidates. The demand will increase even more, because thousands of additional tractors are going to arrive in Georgia” – stated Mikheil Saakashvili.

At this time there have been 126 tractors with ploughs imported to Georgia. The 12 service centers across the entire country will soon be accommodated with 282 various capacity tractors produced in Belarus.

The state has purchased the above-mentioned machinery through the funds acquired from the Japanese grant assistance “2KR.” It is planned to import several hundred European-produced modern tractors and agricultural machinery this year.
