The President of Georgia congratulated the population of Beshumi on the “Shuamtoba” holiday
The President of Georgia visited mountainous Adjara today, where the people who had come from the regions were celebrating the traditional holiday of Beshumi -“Shuamtoba.” Mikheil Saakashvili addressed the gathered population and spoke to them about the importance and potential of mountainous resorts. As the President told the local residents, along with the development of the ski resorts, construction of the road connecting the Goderdzi Pass and Adigeni has already begun and the region will soon have a new road.
“8 years ago we assumed power of an embarrassed, poor, oppressed Adjara, but with very proud, merited, and hard working people and we have turned Adjara into one of the best regions in the world” – stated the President.
Before arriving in Beshumi, the President of Georgia stopped at Goderdzi Pass and met with people involved in the employment program. Currently, a new ropeway and up to 10 hotels are in the process of construction.
“Just keep in mind that this is the last year we are coming to the Shuamtoba holiday by an old road. A 25 kilometer portion is being paved at Goderdzi Pass, and we will extend it towards Adigeni. 500 local residents will be employed at this resort alone. Your houses and lands will have the price of gold because we will bring the entire world here. The Batumi Airport is being expanded and more tourists will arrive here. Many people will cross the border and many more will come up here from all regions of Georgia. At least 10 hotels will be built here. 4 hotels will be built at the first stage. One of the hotels belongs to the person who built the Batumi Piazza. A similar piazza was also built in Mestia after Batumi was finished. No one believed me when I was talking about this 2 years ago. An intensive construction process will start here and unlike Gudauri, this place will be a summer resort as well. This place is a paradise which was hidden from the entire country.” – noted Mikheil Saakashvili while talking to them.
As the President stated, the basis of the construction work will end in September, which means that gondolas will be hung on the ropeway by October.
The Head of State arrived in Beshumi with the Head of the Government of Adjara, Levan Varshalomidze.
