The President of Georgia met with Krzystof Lisek and Elamr Brok

The President of Georgia met with the presenter of Georgian issues at the European Parliament, Krzystof Lisek and the Chairman of Foreign Relations Committee of the European Parliament, Elamr Brok, who is visiting Georgia as a special representative of the European Union.

Democratically held elections, ongoing political events, and deepening the Georgia-EU integration process were the main topics of discussion during the meeting. Mikheil Saakashvili and European Parliamentarians also spoke about the neighboring policy and importance of deepening mutual cooperation.

According to Elmar Brok’s assessment, Georgia has achieved important progress in the recent years, and he called on the new Government to continue the course of European integration in order to reach further advancement.

“We are here from the European Union to show that we are for long standing interest of political development of EU-Georgian relationship. Especially belief that this policy, which was done in the last years should find a continuation. But we also see that it is very positive that this country wants a peaceful transition of power. It should be possible to have a peaceful transition and the new majority should see certain limits in fighting against the opposition. A fight against the opposition and the government is a political fight. This might bring selective justice, which is not possible if you want to have further development and constructive relations between the European Union and a country of European perspective.”
