A bilateral meeting was held between the President of Georgia and the Prime Minister of Turkey. Mikheil Saakashvili and Recep Tayyip Erdogan discussed issues of deepening cooperation, relations of the two countries and Georgia’s integration in NATO. The Prime Minister of Turkey promised Georgia support on the road to integration in the North Atlantic Alliance. Additionally, the sides spoke about the issue of restoring historic and cultural monuments and agreed that Georgian specialists will be allowed in Georgian churches existing in the territory of Turkey without obstacles, so that they can make full documentation and prepare for restoration works relevantly.  The discussion also touched on the issue of Rabat Castle. The sides agreed that the dome of the castle will not be changed and all of the other issues will be decided within the scope of mutual respect. According to their statement, cultural heritage is a very sensitive issue and each side considers this during negotiations. Mikheil Saakashvili let the Prime Minister of Turkey review the book “New Georgia” (Georgian Architecture since the Rose Revolution 2003-2012) where new views of the Rabat Castle are included. The Prime Minister of Turkey hosted the Head of State at the Dolmabagcha Palce in Istanbul. The meeting lasted for three hours, which is twice as long as scheduled.
