The President of Georgia toured the newly-opened tennis courts with the Mayor of Tbilisi – Gigi Ugulava and the famous Georgian tennis player – Leila Meskhi. According to him, it is very important that sports complexes are accessible to everyone. Mikheil Saakashvili also gave an order to the representatives of the government regarding this issue – to create a special project, based on which several hundred adolescents from socially unprotected families will have a chance to participate in this sport for free. Mikheil Saakashvili was given a special racket with the signature of the famous tennis player Raphael Nadal while visiting the closed courts.

“I would like to thank everyone and congratulate them on the new courts. There were protests regarding the closing of the Dinamo courts. By the way, I don’t disagree with these people – if the new government had torn them down and hadn’t rebuilt anything, but this is a different time and a different government. Everyone will agree that we built better courts, and in a place where there are many more people, including the socially unprotected. I would like to create a special program with the Ministry of Sport and Youth Affairs, which will give a chance to several hundred children of socially unprotected families to participate in this sport for free. If a family has low means of support, rackets and tennis balls are a luxury. That is why we must help them and I am sure they will achieve success with their motivation and hard work” - stated the President of Georgia.

Mikheil Saakashvili also touched on the issue of the settlement of Tbilisi and stated that life should become more comfortable in the capital as well as the entire country.

“A Public Service Hall is being built in the place of the former courts and it is very important since it is being done for the people. We won’t build an ugly living house in this place (just like the one that was formerly located at the Tabukashvili Street) but we will build a place where hundreds of thousands of people go to solve their problems each year. Dealing with these problems was very difficult back in the past, but Tbilisi is gradually becoming a more comfortable place to live. The Mayor of Tbilisi has inherited a very tough situation, but we are trying to improve the “leftovers” quickly.

The courts have been built in the 1.7 hectares of the sports complex, Olympic. An administrative building, 9 open and 2 closed courts, bleachers, ventilation and a heating systems have also been built. The courts, of highest international standards, will host local and international tournaments. The President of Georgia also played tennis with Leila Meskhi at the new courts.
