The President of Georgia Mikheil Saakashvili met with the Lithuanian Prime Minister Gediminas Kirkilas
The President of Georgia Mikheil Saakashvili met with the Lithuanian delegation led by the Prime Minister Gediminas Kirkilas. Gediminas Kirkilas updated the President on Valdas Adamkus's statement. It is emphasized in the statement that EU, European Commission, NATO, UN and OSCE should react immediately on the decision made by Russia on the two breakaway regions in Georgia. "It is very important that UN and NATO adopt more ambitious approach towards Georgia. First of all the visa issue and free commerce problem should be solved. It is necessary for Georgia to get integrated into the European structures", is noted in Adamkus's statement.
The President of Georgia expressed his gratitude towards the Lithuanian government for their support and solidarity.
"I am very glad that you express solidarity towards Georgia during this very critical period. Lithuania was always our closest ally. In these difficult conditions, this country understands us the most. Lithuania contributed a lot for Georgian reforms and struggle for peace. This struggle continues today as well and as you see we still pay the price. Recent activities are the confirmation of it. We now have to struggle for peace. Our territories are bombed and de facto and de jure annexation of our territories is underway and we have a documented evidence of this process. This is no longer just a political game, it is much more serious problem. Your visit and solidarity to our people is very important now, when we struggle for peace. We continue our move towards development", the President of Georgia stated.
