The president of Georgia Mikheil Saakashvili held briefing for foreign press
Just later update on the situation with ceasefire. I just had a conversation with Nikola Sarkozy - President of France, I have to say that I am very grateful for president Sarkozy, for his efforts to obtain signature from President Dmitry Medvedev. There was very important visit to Moscow by chancellor Merkel today, and also I am very grateful for chancellor Merkell, I'm grateful because she made quite outspoken and good statement there. At the same time I have to inform, that immediately after our conversation with president of France was over, within 15 minutes (and it can be is easily verified because you are journalists around the site) Russian tanks moved into the town of Kaspi (town between Gori and Tbilisi), that's the closest city to Tbilisi, much closer than Gori, also Russain tanks moved towards town of Borjomi, where they never been before and this is remark, great concern to me, after our very constructive talk with secretary Rice because we didn't focused only at ceasefire, we focused on rebuilding of my country after the whole nightmare, and we had very substantial and good conversation on that. She was very constructive and supportive in that conference. After my very substantial very constructive talks with president Sarkozy, who was supporting and also promised to come to Georgia with state visit in nearest year, after all of that we see the Russian tanks are going to zone of occupation and moving around.
I want to tell the world, that our troops are in proximity of the capital that our troops are well equipped, well armed and high moral, and at the same time they are acting on strict instructions. From the government of Georgia this is very necessary to underline, not to get provoked, not to start fire, and only to react with greater restraint, because what we are seeing now, is some kind of provocation that might have extremely devastating consequences for wider population. These tanks are in the urban centers, these tanks are dangerous as my troops are acting on this premise of the restraint and we'll do our best not to get provoked. The situations as it is now is following that we are seeing of broadening conflict zone of confrontation. I hope president Medvedev respects and honor his own signature and withdraw his forces from those urban areas where they've entered totally illegally as far as this intervention. We will keep you updated. Everything I've said again is it to verify, we can go these sides, we can go to Borjomi, to Kaspi to other places , to Khashuri, so we have three new locations of recent occupation as for now we have Poti, Zugdidi, Senaki, Gori now we have all these four plus there is Khashuri, Borjomi and Kaspi, so we already have 7 plus some other areas. So basically we have increased areas of Russian occupation and have to underline that they are moving and somehow getting closer to the capital Tbilisi.
That's all I wanted to tell you, thank you for your attention.
