The President of Georgia met with representatives of the EU and diplomatic corps

The President of Georgia hosted representatives of the EU and diplomatic corps today. Parliamentary elections held in the country were the main topic of discussion during the meeting. According to the Ambassador of the EU Philip Dimitrov, Special Representative (EUSR) for the South Caucasus and the crisis in Georgia Philippe Lefort, and the Head of the EU Observer Mission Andrzej Tiskevich the elections and the election process ended successfully, which once again proves that the country keeps heading towards its democratic course. As the European diplomats noted, on October 1st the Georgian people were able to express their free opinion and the government once again proved that it is faithful to democracy, freedom, and European values.

During the meeting, representatives of the EU and diplomatic corps stated that the vote counting process must continue in democratic and transparent conditions, and the central election commission must be able to work in a peaceful environment without any kind of political oppressions and incidents. At the same time, it is especially important that the interim period passes in full compliance with the constitution and existing laws, and the European integration continues.
