The President of Georgia toured ongoing rehabilitation works and implemented infrastructural projects in Ureki. Mikheil Saakashvili later spoke to the local residents and informed them about future plans. As the Head of State noted, such problems as water and sewage systems, bad roads and the unorganized beach, which have not been dealt with for decades, will be handled soon. While meeting with local residents, the President spoke about the tourist potential of Guria and noted that it has the best mountainous and sea resorts in terms of Bakhmaro and Ureki. Mikheil Saakashvili also walked the newly opened boulevard in Ureki and met with tourists.

“I came here in order to inspect the administered works. Next year, twice as much will be created here. The boulevard looks very nice. We have to extend it to the very end, but first of all we have to change communications underground, which has already begun. Ureki has terrible conditions. The problems that this resort had, such as unorganized water systems, no natural gas, no electricity, and the unorganized beach, will be solved completely next year. Lots of businesses should be opened here. Gurians should start businesses by themselves and a lot of prospects will appear instantly. This region has really good places, including Bakhmaro, which will become a lot better next year. I hope we can start constructing an airport and this place will be extraordinary with its mountain and sea resorts” – noted the President of Georgia.

Rehabilitation works are going on around 800 meters of Ureki Beach. Infrastructure and green plants have been fully fixed within the scope of the project. A bicycle lane of international standards has been built. Up to 200 persons were employed at the rehabilitation works; mostly local people.

Additionally, rehabilitation works of water and sewage systems are planned. Sewage pipelines will be replaced and a main sanitation hub built, in order to avoid polluting the sea in the future. Up to 500 persons will be employed within the scope of the project.
