The President of Georgia visited Poti

The President of Georgia met with the population of Poti today, and spoke to them about the ongoing and implemented reforms in the region. Mikheil Saakashvili touched on the issues of rehabilitating the water system, accommodating the city, and ongoing changes in the education sphere. He also drew attention to the employment issue and noted that everyone should have a chance to find jobs in Poti. According to him, the retraining centers and the state programs, which envision financing studies, also assist this process. In this direction he emphasized the necessity of opening facilities.

“I would like to read this report with you, and for you to confirm that the presented projects are really being implemented and everything that is being done is accessible for you. Three weeks ago we negotiated with Socar, and it will build a very high-powered factory in Poti, with the capacity of chemical reproduction of oil products. 2 thousand persons will be employed in this facility. We should strengthen the technical schools we have in Poti even more. Every person, who is going through retraining in these technical schools, finds high paying jobs within a month. The employment rate is 75 % on the first day. In short, Poti should become an industrial center considering the fact that transport communications are developing” – stated Mikheil Saakashvili.

The meeting with the President continued in Q&A format and the local population expressed interest in the projects which the state is implementing in the region.

The Head of State also visited the Poti Church which is under construction. He inspected the construction work at Saint Mary Cathedral, and expressed interest in the construction details.
