The President of Georgia “We need ideas more than criticism now”
Mikheil Saakashvili inspected the new moving monument, near the Batumi Public Service hall, called “Rotation” along with its designer – Tamar Kvesitadze. The sculpture created in 2005 has been exceedingly popular at the exhibitions of Paris and Venice and a symbol of constantly changing times. The President thinks that “Rotation” will become as popular as “Ali and Nino”.
“Batumi is really becoming a hearth of the arts. “Ali and Nino” is a symbol of friendship between the Georgian and the Azeri people. Batumi and Baku developed into cities between the 19th and 20th centuries. Their plans have been created by the same architects. They have important economic and historical ties and that is why this sculpture has become the symbol of all of that. We need new ideas and architectural projects instead of criticism” – stated Mikheil Saakashvili.
According to the President, a new sculpture will also be created in Tbilisi, at the Marjanishvili Square and very soon there will be a competition for its design in which Georgian as well as foreign artists will have a chance to participate. Mikheil Saakashvili called for everyone to create architectural projects for Lazika, the construction of which will start soon.
