Mikheil Saakashvili inspected the ongoing construction works in Rustavi
Mikheil Saakashvili inspected the rehabilitation works at the swimming pool of Rustavi, where the front façade and the pool are currently being restored. The President of Georgia noted that the city will have a sports arena of international standards in the nearest future. The children of socially unprotected families and honors students will be able to use the swimming pool for free by the initiative of Mikheil Saakashvili.
“There should be special windows of time created for children of socially unprotected families, during which they can use the pool for free. The honors students must also receive free passes from the administration, because computers should not be the only motivator of their success. The rehabilitation of this pool will end by June and Rustavi will have a complex of international standards. There are already water-polo teams in Batumi and Kutaisi and we should create one here. If we can reach 10 teams we will found a national league of water polo in Georgia” – stated the President of Georgia.
The rehabilitation of the sports complex is being implemented by the means allocated from the Presidential foundation. Bleachers designed for 300 viewers, a gymnasium, and the necessary infrastructure for the pool are being installed. The nearby territory of 3,500 square meters will also be rehabilitated. The swimming pool will be operational in May 2012.
Mikheil Saakashvili later toured the construction of a new hotel and spoke to the architect about its details.
The construction of a three star hotel with nine stories and seventy rooms began several weeks ago and will be completed by the end of the year. The company “Grand Vejini” is administering the construction works, while employing 100 local workers.
