The President of Georgia opened a 10 km long highway

The President of Georgia Mikheil Saakashvili opened Igoeti-Sveneti highway today. The state issued 92 million GEL for the construction of this highway. New road connecting with Gori will have been constructed by August this year. Mikheil Saakashvili talked to the workers and got interested in their working conditions. The President noted that the construction would not stop in Georgia. He stated that those 5 people who saved Georgian equipment and risked their lives would be awarded Orders of Honor.

"It will take at least 4 years to pave roads in Georgia, then it will be necessary to widen and take care of those roads. So we will always have some work to do on the roads. After the Soviet period our road builders went to Russia, Ukraine, Central Asia and other countries. So we lost our best specialists and this school had collapsed in Georgia. Traditionally we had good specialists. So now we will again need our specialists. Besides the fact that we are constructing roads and are developing our economy this way, we are employing our people, this means that the families of those people who work here will have incomes. This is very important. When the family members know that their brothers, fathers or sons go to work it is great happiness. The enemy watches us from far away and envies us, because despite of their provocations and attacks, the construction has not stopped in Georgia. Georgia has enough strength to finish the work that we have started. I want you to know how grateful I am for each of you. I saw it with my own eyes in August that when Russians were moving around in their tanks people were working simultaneously on road constructions. By the way in Tirdznisi some women extinguished fire in one of schools where Russians and Ossetian separatists tried to put the school on fire. That was exactly when road builders saved our road equipment", stated Mikheil Saakashvili and added - "this kind of people build Georgia".

The President of Georgia personally drove a car on a new highway.
