The President of Georgia summoned an emergency government session in Telavi
The President of Georgia is visiting Kakheti which was severely damaged last night by a natural disaster. Mikheil Saakashvili summoned an emergency government session in Telavi and discussed ways of eliminating damage caused by the disaster. The President of Georgia ordered the heads of relevant government bodies to create a headquarters for eliminating the damage, and ordered the Prime Minister Vano Merabishvili, to lead the needed works. With the initiative of the President of Georgia, a Parliament session will be held in order to alter the current budget and allocate funds to cover the damage.
According to the Head of State, damage caused by the disaster is fairly large; approximately 11 hectares of used land is affected by the hail by 80-100 %, 770 houses lost their roofs, bridges, dikes and gas pipelines were damaged as well. By the order of Mikheil Saakashvili, firstly, the territories must be cleaned which will intensively be administered by reserve officers and military technology mobilized by Dimitri Shashkin.
The worst situation was created in Telavi, where houses were damaged and a large portion of the population was left outside. The Gurjaani, Lagodekhi, as well as Akhaltsikhe and Aspindza Regions received no less damage. It strongly hailed and rained in the Bulachauri Region as well. The special commission, which will calculate the damage as a result of the disaster, has been created by the order of the President.
