The President of Georgia addressed the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly Conference in Batumi

The President of Georgia participated in the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly Conference, “Fostering economic co-operation, sustainable development and stability in the OSCE region.” The Head of State addressed the delegates and focused on the economic, police, and service sector reforms implemented in the country. He once again called on the representatives of up to 40 countries to bring more observers to Georgia, because holding democratic and transparent elections is extremely important for the country.

Mikheil Saakashvili focused attention on the existing challenges from the Russian side, non-fulfillment of the ceasefire agreement, and the current conditions in the still occupied territories of Georgia. The President of Georgia spoke about the mental changes in the country and defeating corruption as well as the importance of existing democratic governance in Georgia.

The President of OSCE Parliamentary Assembly Petros Efthymiou, while opening the conference, focused on the successful economic reforms implemented in the country. Petros Efthymiou, once again stated on behalf of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly that the necessity of restoring the observer mission in Georgia remains a uniform position of OSCE PA. According to him, OSCE is interested in resolving the issue peacefully and supports the position of Georgia, which is also seeks a peaceful policy in this regard.

The Chairman of Parliament also addressed the delegates and spoke about the reforms implemented in economic and other spheres in Georgia, as well as future plans, tourist potential of the country, and the investment climate.

Over 200 delegates from up to 40 countries are participating in the economic forum in Batumi.

Fostering economic co-operation, sustainable development and stability in the OSCE region are the main themes of the economic forum. Issues related to investment climate, energy security, and tourism will also be discussed in the working sessions during the conference as well as prospects of creating an attractive business and investment environment in the region.

The conference will conclude on May 14th  in Batumi.
