The President of Georgia met with students
The President of Georgia met with the students of Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University and the Caucasus University. Mikheil Saakashvili addressed the students and introduced new initiatives to them. He also discussed the projects which he touched on while delivering his annual report at the Parliament of Georgia. The President drew attention to the Presidential program of employment, which envisions employing 25 thousand students during July 20 – August 20 in the entire territory Georgia. The students will receive 500 GEL in compensation for their work. According to him, the project will also continue in the future. While talking to the students the President also mentioned that developing the education sphere is one of the top priorities of the government and is important because the country must have qualified specialists in all spheres. He also called for the youth to participate in the summer school programs and stated that next year the scale of study abroad programs will expand.
Aside from employing students, rewarding them and studying abroad, Mikheil Saakashvili named the development of higher education infrastructure and adopting of international standards in terms of Education as one of the top priorities. According to him, opening of the Batumi Technological University serves exactly this purpose. Its main directions will be technical, information and engineering disciplines. The Head of State noted that, in 2012 Georgia will have a Technological University in line with American standards.
Mikheil Saakashvili also touched on the program according to which this fall, English language and Computer trainings will be held in up to 20 cities. In total, 20 thousand persons over the age of 25 will be retrained around the country, which will give the chance to deepen knowledge, learn new professions and become employed.
