Nino Burjanadze meets Ivane Javakhishvili State University students

"While ascending the university stairs I guessed that I have missed this place, relations with you, the students, a lot, since if a person gave a lecture even once knows how much warmth this relation gives and at the same time how a responsible work it is," said Nino Burjanadze at her meeting with Ivane Javakhishvili State University students.

Acting president Burjanadze answered all questions given by the students and talked about the latest developments in Georgia. "By a painful decision taken by the government on November 7, we have avoided a real threat of a civil unrest," she said.

Nino Burjanadze also talked about education, justice and defense sphere reforms and emphasized that without implementing painful reforms the country would not have recovered from a crisis it had been till 2003.

Upcoming presidential elections had also been discussed at the meeting.

Nino Burjanadze talked about those tools the government had been using to ensure holding of elections accordant to international standards. She introduced to the students her initiative regarding the inviting of Georgia's friendly countries' parliamentary delegations to monitor the elections. "I give you my word that we will hold the democratic elections, after which no one will have a right to cause unrest and destabilization in the country, and put a question mark over Georgia's development," said acting president.

Nino Burjanadze discussed those social projects the government had been implementing and would actively continue to implement in the future.

Nino Burjanadze introduced to the students the government's decision to take out the state university's therapeutic and diagnostic center, that is a training base for the medical faculty students, from the privatization list.

"It is inconceivable to be a qualified doctor without appropriate practical knowledge," she noted.

During acting president Burjanadze's meeting with the students a special attention had been devoted to the conflicts on the Georgian territory. "The aim of our government is solve the Abkhazia and South Ossetia issues in the near future. Your generation should take care of bridging a gap, that sadly exists, in order to fully reintegrate Abkhazian and Ossetian people into the Georgian society," said Nino Burjanadze.
