President Saakashvili has appointed Gela Bezhuashvili as new head of the intelligence department. Mikheil Saakashvili tasked Gela Bezhuashvili to reinforce the agency. "This agency is not part of the government. This is the service, which is accountable to the President. This is a real intelligence service. This is an agency with one general mission, now when Georgia is in extremely difficult geopolitical situation, the top priority of this agency will be to provide us with precise and unbiased information about what is going on around us. This service needs serious reinforcement. We need to create kind of product we need to have. I am appointing a person who is capable of building a new agency from scratch. Gela is my friend and I trust him, the most important thing is that I trust him because he is a real professional. I trust him as he can make an unbiased analysis and impartial prognosis. The Georgian government needs to have serious information to make the right decisions. This is a service that has a wide network. I hope, that this department will work to fit the present situation. All of us will be able to see the product together. The work done by this department, will be performed on the highest level" -Mikheil Saakashvili stated.
