Statement by the Head of Protocol and Foreign Affairs Office at the Administration of the President of Georgia

Yesterday, on November 30, 2012, the Georgian delegation, headed by the Presiden,t left for Yerevan in order to attend the Eastern Partnership Summit of Heads of States.

Vano Merabishvili was invited to the summit by the EPP President as the General Secretary of the United National Movement Party. He was a member of the official delegation and participated in meetings including with the President of the European Commission, Jose Manuel Barroso.

Since 2003, we have planned many official visits including with the participation of Vano Merabishvili, and I would like to firmly state that there was never a case of using a fake passport or any kind of fake travel document. It is strange that I have to comment on this or that such allegations are being brought against the former Prime Minister. We have never encountered such an allegation in our multi-year long protocol experience. I would like to tell you that the passport control procedure is a very simple and transparent process on the border, which eliminates the possibility of traveling with fake documents.
