The President of Georgia assessed last decisions of the Government positively
The President of Georgia replied to several recent decisions of the Government. Namely, to the fact of stopping the Georgia-Russia railway project and the issue of cultural heritage monuments on Georgian and Turkish soils.
Mikheil Saakashvili noted with satisfaction that certain signs of realism have appeared in the foreign policy of Georgia in terms of restoring the railroad connecting Georgia and Russia though Abkhazia. As he noted, restoration of the railway would be an unrealized step made against reintegration of Abkhazia, which would firstly harm Georgia’s national security.
The President of Georgia also positively assessed the results of ongoing negotiations in Turkey based on which a mosque will be built in Batumi and Georgian cultural heritage monuments restored on the territory of Turkey. According to Mikheil Saakashvili the previous Government worked on this issue for years but the project stopped because of “egoistic interests of parties and a lot of time was lost.” According to the President, foreign policy issues must stand above party interests and he expressed hope that the current Government won’t change its decision.
