The President of Georgia Presented Anaklia the Status of City

Today the President of Georgia paid a visit to the coast of Anaklia, one of the most picturesque seaside resorts in western Georgia, located in the Samegrelo region, where the Enguri River runs into the Black Sea near the border of Abkhazia. He visited a new five star-hotel the "Golden Fleece" (Okros Satsmisi), which is in full compliance with modern international standards and also marked that very soon Anaklia will become one of the most desired resort destinations for tourists in the Black Sea area.  "I have been in Presidential suites in many countries around the world, but I have never seen a three-storey-room with a Winter garden. The entrance has a luster that is created with Swarovski crystals and there are four swimming pools for the guest's enjoyment. When I first visited the site the owner presented the plans and I commented that no one builds such large rooms in hotels.  He replied with enthusiasm that everything should be awesome here. This is one of the things that make Megrelian people so great. Anaklia will be the finest resort not only in Georgia but on the entire Black Sea coast and it will far exceed Sharm el-Sheikh, Antalia and other resorts. The other 2 hotels that are being built will also be equally impressive- the President of Georgia stated.

There are 105 ultramodern rooms in the hotel. The President toured the rooms of the hotel and the VIP apartment, which is envisaged for influential visitors. Today the "Golden Fleece" received its first visitors.

The President also laid the foundation of another new hotel named "Guesthouse" situated near the "Golden Fleece".  Mikheil Saakashvili together with the Majoritarian Deputy of Zugdidi, Pridon Todua placed a symbolic capsule into the foundation.

Mikheil Saakashvili also walked along the boulevard of Anaklia, which is connected with the boulevard of Ganmukhuri by a pedestrian bridge that is 540 metres in length, one of the longest in Europe. This bridge creates a common area which is 5 km in length between the two boulevards. The boulevard is already ornamented with bronze sculptures, palms, and modern lights, open-air and indoor cafes. Bicycle paths are also ready for use. Vacationers who come to Anaklia will have access to the yacht-club as well. The pleasant climate that exists in Anaklia will encourage the development of maritime sports at the resort.

The President of Georgia sailed in the Sea of Anaklia. He recalled the time when the idea of building a new Anaklia was born. "Today we are opening the resort of Anaklia. Today systems were turned on in this hotel; building of the bridge is currently under construction - adding some details will last for another month.  We are in such hurry to do everything in Georgia, we don't have a second to lose. I would like to tell you how the idea of building the resort of Anaklia was born. 5 years ago, when I was surveying maritime boarders with the Georgian Coast Guard, the engine stopped operating a few hundred meters from shore. We were concerned as to what to do because we were extremely close to the so-called peace-forces, who had already been functioning as an occupant. Here the Russian military was deployed -preparing APCs, rolled cannons, arranged machine-guns, guns and automats - as if military incident had occurred. We were standing, observing the uncontrolled territory deciding whetherto call in the helicopters, swim to the seashore or try to repair the engine ourselves when local fishermen in two boats offered to tow us to shore. Afterwards, as I visited one family and when I talked with other residents, I began to see the huge potential that was here. Anaklia has an amazing climate - when it is raining in the rest of Georgia, it is dry here. Here you feel lightness and comfort" - the President of Georgia stated.

Anaklia - formally a village in the Zugdidi municipality was given the status of a city today. The presentation of the new resort city was finished with grand concert and fireworks. Mikheil Saakashvili addressed residents and visitors and talked about future plans. He stated that new road will also be constructed that will be extended along the sea coast. The driving time from Poti to Anaklia is estimated to take 15 minutes and  from Batumi it will take about 50 minutes. The President predicted that in 2015 Anaklia will host 400,000 tourists and that it will become one of the most popular destinations on the Black Sea coast.
