The 2010 Index of Fighting Corruption according to Transparency International – 68^th place

According to the Transparency International, Georgia holds first place in the Post-Soviet space (with the exception of the Baltic States) in terms of fighting corruption. However, Georgia had 4.1 points in 2009 and was in 66^th place.

The causes for improvement of the country’s position:

• Highly effective reforms in terms of gaining public trust
• Highly effective steps in terms of improving the image of the country on an international level
• Post-Revolutionary fight against corruption on the lower level

Transparency International defines corruption as using power in an evil way for a personal gain. This definition includes practicing corruption both in public and private sectors. The Fighting Corruption Index assesses the corruption in countries in terms of the levels of corruption in their public sectors.
