Statement by the Administration of the President of Georgia

5/15/2013

We would like to once again address the Government and warn them that constant appellation on the 2008 War investigation, and attempts of accusing the Government of Georgia unimaginably raises the risk of recognition of the occupied regions by other countries.

This kind of attitude from the new government may be followed by catastrophic results for our country, for which the initiators of the investigation will be fully responsible.

As a result of diplomatic intervention by the Government of Georgia the occupant State was unable to reach its goal in this sense nearly everywhere. It is a merit of exactly this diplomatic approach that almost every international organization and leading world nations, with the exception of a few regimes, recognize Georgia’s territorial integrity and sovereignty and the fact of the occupation of Georgia’s inseparable parts by Russia.

It is an obligation of any government to constantly protect the interests of its country, which includes consistent politics and active interaction with world leaders. Unfortunately, the above mentioned position of the current government regarding the 2008 War investigation, inconsistent politics and statements regarding acceptability of the Kosovo model cannot serve the above mentioned interests.

The President of Georgia addressed the Prime Minister of Georgia with a special letter several weeks ago, which explained details of non-recognition politics and offered cooperation regarding all important issues. Unfortunately this letter had no response.

We once again call on the Prime Minister and the entire Government to think well about the possible catastrophic consequences of their actions and correct their politics regarding this fundamental issue because of vital interests of Georgia.

The President of Georgia still expresses readiness to cooperate densely with the Government of Georgia regarding the non-recognition policy, de-occupation of occupied territories by Russia as well as any issues related to security of the country.
