The President of Georgia visited the Tamarisi neighborhood in Batumi with Levan Varshalomidze and familiarized himself with the construction process of social living quarters on site. Mikheil Saakashvili spoke to the persons employed at the construction while focusing on the importance of the project. The Head of State thanked Levan Varshalomidze and his team for their contribution in the development of the region, and noted that a formerly provincial dictatorship has turned into the most rapidly growing region of Europe during 8 years of his leadership.
“A formerly provincial dictatorship has turned into the most rapidly growing region of Europe during 8 years of Levan Varshalomidze’s leadership. Many Batumians might say that this beauty, sky scrapers, and development does not change anything for them but this is not so. People will gradually realize this because it will show in the quality of life, employment, and future of our children…implementation of large scale projects has begun in Adjara. This is an initiative of Mr. Levan Varshalomidze. You know that we have built several neighborhoods for refugees with high quality housing, and several new buildings are under construction now. The government of Adjara was planning to build dozens of such buildings so that Batumi would be freed from barrack type housing. People living in the barracks should move here, as well as eco migrants, and persons who are left without homes. We would like for people to have a roof over their heads, and for their children better healthcare and conditions. We would like what has been started and reached such heights to continue. I would like to thank Levan Varshalomidze and his team for the miracles they have accomplished. I thank every member of the government of Adjara and two supreme councils because it would be impossible without them. I also thank the builders in Adjara because work did not stop day and night. Levan Varshalomidze keeps working. You know that we have switched to the opposition and he will be the leader of the local opposition” – stated the President of Georgia.
Social housing is built by the initiative of the government of Adjara on so called business territory, where homeless persons of various categories will have a new home. Construction of two 9 story buildings is scheduled for December 20th.
