A meeting between Mikheil Saakashvili and the NATO Secretary General was held at the Presidential Palace today. The sides discussed bilateral relations and issues related to Georgian integration in the Euro-Atlantic structures. Mikheil Saakashvili once again reaffirmed Georgia’s Euro-Atlantic aspirations and readiness to hold elections democratically. The NATO Secretary General once again expressed his position and noted that he supports Georgia’s territorial integrity and sovereignty. He also focused attention on the successfully implemented reforms in the country and noted that Georgia is getting closer to the North Atlantic Alliance with the ongoing changes. According to Anders Fogh Rasmussen, Georgia has a big friend in terms of NATO and the country’s future lies within NATO.
The President of Georgia and the NATO Secretary General held a joint press conference after their bilateral meeting. During their address, the President of Georgia and Anders Fogh Rasmussen focused attention on the importance of Georgia’s integration with NATO and the necessity of holding democratic and transparent elections.
“Georgia will become a member of NATO. Our reforms and our fight for freedom will continue. Georgia will continue travelling the democratic road and we will hold the freest and the most transparent elections in the history of Georgia. We will continue travelling the road of freedom towards a historic choice; we will continue on the road towards a free and successful Georgia! Our contacts with NATO are extremely important; it is extremely important that the Secretary General is here now, in Tbilisi…if it is possible for a NATO Secretary General to be Georgian then it is definitely Anders Fogh Rasmussen…” – stated the President of Georgia.
