The President of Georgia met with the members of the Olympic Team at the Patriot Camp with the youth living at the summer camp. Mikheil Saakashvili addressed them and symbolically started his speech with the issue of building the new city of Lazika.
“In several days implementation of our main dream – construction of the new beautiful city of Lazika is beginning, which will be an extension of Poti, and a main economic center for the places around; the most organized seaport in terms of engineering is being built here. I am sure this city will become a Georgian pride and it will attract everyone including the ones living across the occupational line like a magnet. The idea of Lazika is the idea of Georgia, its unity, and rehabilitation and not an idea of war and demolition” - stated the President of Georgia.
The Head of State congratulated the sportsmen with their victory and wished them further advancement. He called the members of the team exemplary, and noted that Georgia has one of the top places in terms of Olympic medals per capita. According to the President, “there is no unbeatable opponent if there is winning attitude”
“It is impossible for me not to be proud of the achieved results; we were in the Bronze Age before the Rose Revolution. We gained the first gold medals in 2004 during the Athens Olympics. We got 3 gold medals in Beijing in 2008. It is true that we only got one this year, but we also had 3 silver and 3 bronze medals, which is the best result for our small fighting country” – noted the Head of State.
