The President of Georgia visited Zugdidi today. Mikheil Saakashvili laid a cornerstone at the construction of the Zugdidi Public Service Hall and symbolically put a capsule in the base of the building personally. The Head of State learned about the city development plan, which envisions implementing several important infrastructural and business projects.
“Zugdidi will become a very beautiful European city with 100 thousand residents. Along with these projects it is necessary to rehabilitate the water supply system. Poti, Lazika zone, and Zugdidi will fill the space together. The most important thing is to open facilities, retrain people, and assist them. At a time when Anaklia has develop, Svaneti is developing, an airport is being opened in Poti, we have started building Lazika and we are going to create an economic zone there. A chance is emerging where Zugdidi will no longer be a dead end. Along with increasing the tourist potential and industrialization, Zugdidi is becoming a center. This is why special assistance is required from the state. We should simply fix the infrastructure” – noted Mikheil Saakashvili.
Construction of this Public Service Hall will end in a year, and the local population will get a chance to have 250 services in one space. A youth school and the house of leaders will also be opened within the scope of the project. Up to 100 persons will be employed at the construction. Aside from this, the surrounding area of the Public Service Hall will also be well accommodated - a park stretching over 10 000 square meters. The project consists of 3 zones. The first stage envisions organizing a modern entertainment center with children’s attractions, cafes, a concert square, fountains, and bicycle lanes. Full rehabilitation of the botanical garden and the Dadiani Palace will be finished next year.
